Featuring tracks that established the likes of Coxson Dodd, Duke Reid and Chris Blackwell as major record producers, as well as launching the careers of such influential acts as Alton Ellis, Jackie Edwards, Owen Gray, Derrick Harriott and Byron Lee, the set illustrates how locally-produced music finally began to rival and ultimately out-sell imported records.
With many of these recordings making their debut on CD, this collection not only provides a fascinating insight into the origins of the modern Jamaican music industry, it is also a must for collectors and anyone who likes their music raunchy and raw.
