Lee Scratch Perry - Heaven - 180 Gram Vinyl LP

The new studio album ‘Heaven’ will be available on 180-gram vinyl and CD from Burning Sounds on the 27th October 2023.                      

Burning Sounds are proud to announce the release of ‘Heaven’, the final album from Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, one of “the major cultural figures” of the twentieth and twenty first centuries. His contribution to the furtherance of Jamaican music as producer, arranger, writer and artist is beyond compare. He played a pivotal role in, and was the inspiration behind, many of the key movements in the development of reggae throughout the Sixties and Seventies.

Lee "Scratch" Perry was a Jamaican music producer, singer, and songwriter who played a significant role in the development of reggae and dub music. He is often referred to as the "Upsetter" due to his production label Upsetter Records. Perry was a highly influential figure in the music industry, known for his innovative production techniques, experimentation with sound, and eccentric personality.

Perry began his career in the 1950s and gained prominence in the 1960s with his work with artists like Bob Marley and the Wailers, as well as other notable Jamaican musicians. He is credited with helping to shape the sound of reggae music and introducing dub production techniques, which involve manipulating and remixing tracks to create unique and atmospheric versions.

Some of his most famous works include producing albums like "Super Ape" and "Blackboard Jungle Dub." These albums are considered classics in the dub genre and have had a lasting impact on music production and electronic music.

Lee "Scratch" Perry's production style involved using unconventional recording methods, such as creating custom sound effects by modifying equipment, incorporating studio noises into the music, and experimenting with reverb and delay effects. His approach greatly contributed to the development of the dub genre and inspired countless musicians and producers.

In addition to his musical contributions, Perry was known for his colorful personality, distinctive fashion choices, and sometimes eccentric behavior. He remained an influential and respected figure in the music world until his passing in August 2021.
