Echo & The Bunnymen are an English Rock Band formed in Liverpool in 1978. The band members involved; Ian McCulloch (vocalist), Will Sergeant (guitar), Lee Pattinson (base) and a drum machine. In 1980 Pete De Freitas joined the band as the drummer.
In 1980 they released their debut album 'Crocodiles', which made it to the UK Top 20. In 1981 they released their second album 'Heaven up Here' making it to number 10 in the UK album chart, both albums being favoured by the critics. In the mid 1980's the band scored a UK Top 10 hit with 'The Cutter' and in 1983 their album 'Porcupine' reached number 2 in UK charts.
The band continued their UK chart success with 'Ocean Rain' in 1984, from this came their hit singles 'The Killing Moon' and 'Seven Seas'. They released one more studio album in 1987 called 'Echo and The Bunnymen' before Ian McCulloch left the band to pursue a solo career in 1988. A year later in 1989 Pete De Freitas was killed in a motorcycle accident.
The band re-emerged with a new line up, this included original band members Will Sergeant and Lee Pattinson, followed by Noel Burke as lead singer, Damon Reece on drums and Jake Brockman on keyboard. They released 'Reverberation' in 1990 but due to the disappointment of the critics and the commercial reaction, the band split in 1993.
In 1997, McCulloch and Sergeant regrouped with Pattinson, returning as Echo & The Bunnymen with a UK Top 10 hit 'Nothing Lasts Forever, as well as a new album 'Evergreen' making a successful return to the Live Arena at No.8, soon after Les Pattinson decided to leave the group for the second time. Ian McCulloch and Will Sergeant continued to release new material. Albums included; 'What are you going to do with your life?' in 1999, 'Flowers' in 2001, 'Siberia' in 2005, 'The Fountain' in 2009 and 'Meteorites' in 2014.
